Organisation Development (OD) is an increasingly influential field of practice in the Singapore Public Service. One reason is that there is an increasing need for Public Service organisations to respond more deftly to the changes in their external environments. With this growing appreciation for the practice of OD, the challenge faced is in building OD capabilities within the Public Service. But what is OD, really? How did the practice of OD evolve? What is the role of OD?
The purpose of this paper is to clarify for leaders some of the key principles and practices of Organisation Development (OD). OD is a term used quite often in the Singapore Public Service these days, but one which seems to be largely misunderstood. We hope that this paper will de-mystify what OD is, and will provide practical ideas on how the field of OD can support you on your leadership journey.
